Huge props to Liza Bender who created the gorgeous Infinite Tuning Tunnels that surround and react to The Music Mill!
This is our second collaboration (she was lead set designer and fabricator for the Not Your Mirror music video) and beyond her art pieces that share a room with The Music Mill, Liza consulted on many of the aesthetic choices in the larger work, from lighting placement and color, to room-architecture, to panel graphics, and much much more.

TURNER
My deepest thanks to the brilliant Turner Kirk for his tireless work in bringing The Music Mill’s super-swanky, hyper-customized, MIDI-controlled lighting to life!
The adventure began with my proposal to simply adapt Turner's custom MIDI-Lights system (currently in use by a number of live music acts) for use in The Music Mill. As the complexity of the project grew and the bar for technical standards were raised, the scope ballooned to encompass multiple custom firmwares, custom 3D printed enclosures, and a complete overhaul of the circuitry. Turner worked with Meow Wolf's tech team to ensure a rock solid, super safe, and easy to maintain design. He integrated the same lighting system into the surrounding environment via Liza Bender's Infinite Tuning Tunnels. I can't count the number of times I went to Turner needing a quick-fix to accommodate the continuously morphing puzzle that this project was, but he was always there with a solution.
Turner has more patience, perseverance, and positivity than practically anyone I’ve ever worked with. His tireless dedication to the project, extreme attention to detail, and constantly-creative attitude have won my admiration and endless gratitude.
Hats off to you, oh wise hacker, musician, 3D-modeler, coder, product-designer, electrical-engineer, lighting-designer, and Omega Mart contributor extraordinaire... TURNER KIRK!!! |
BRIAN
Where do you go when you’re in the San Francisco Bay Area and you need someone to co-design and fabricate a quarter-ton, ruggedly beautiful, intricately detailed, and highly functional steel console? You go to Brian Sullivan.
Brian is the brains and brawn behind the magnificent physical structure of The Music Mill. He offered everything I needed from industrial design, to top quality metalwork, to all manner of fabrication and finishing, all in one shop. There are countless wonderful and subtle details in this piece that are Brian’s innovations, and which make it the invincible, easily serviceable, and aesthetically captivating device that it is.
Brian has the boldness to tackle visionary projects, combined with the talent, skill, and resources to bring them into reality. He’s a creative, patient, and industrious master-craftsperson, and I learned a tremendous amount working with him. The Music Mill is the power source for Meow Wolf's Omega Mart Factory, and Brian Sullivan is source of the source’s power.
